Reviewing Reports in a Double Reading Workflow

After the first reader dictates and signs a report in the double reading workflow, it is displayed in the second reader's Double Reads worklist. The Required Action column displays Second Read to indicate that the second reader must review the report.

If the report does not require any changes, the second reader co-signs the report, at which point it becomes final.

If a discrepancy is found in the report, the second reader edits the report, can change or add a diagnostic code, provides a score and comments, and then signs it. The report is reassigned to the first reader to review and to co-sign, at which point it becomes final.

To review a report in the Double Reading workflow as a second reader:

  1. From the Double Reads tab of the Reporting worklist, open the report to review.

The report is displayed in the Patient Record tab.

  2. If you do not want to make any changes to the report, click Co-sign.

The report is final and is removed from your worklist.

  3. If you found a discrepancy in the report, click Edit.

The Double Reading panel expands and the report becomes editable.

  4. To add or change a diagnostic code, in the diagnostic code field, search and enter the new code and description and then press ENTER. See Selecting a Diagnostic Code.
  5. In the Feedback panel, select a score from the list.

    Double Reading Scores

Depending on the score that you selected, the first reader may have to review and co-sign the edited report.

The PACS administrator configures which scores will require a signature by the first reader. See the Peer Review Administrator Guide.

  6. Select the check box that best represents the actions you took as a result of the review, and enter a comment, if required.

If you selected a score that requires a comment, the Comments field label will display (Required) in red, and the Sign & Send Feedback button becomes inactive. Once you have entered a comment, the Sign & Send Feedback button is active.

  7. Click Sign & Send Feedback.

Once you sign the review, you cannot delete it.

The report is removed from your Double Reads worklist. If the score you selected requires an approval by the first reader, it is still in preliminary state. Otherwise, the report is final.
