Stacking Tomosynthesis Images
You can use the Stack tool to view three-dimensional slices of tomosynthesis images, viewing each image in sequence. You can stack through images by using the mouse, the mouse wheel, or by using shortcut keys.
You can stack tomosynthesis images for modalities that support it, such as MG tomosynthesis or X-Ray tomosynthesis (including support for split datasets). For more information, contact your PACS administrator.
You can use the following controls in the scroll bar for tomosynthesis stacking:
- Slice positioning: The ordering of slices in the dataset. The order of images is determined by CC Slice Position and MLO Slice Position in the Tomosynthesis preferences. For example, in a CC series, F at the top of the scroll bar and H at the bottom represent foot to head slice positioning.
- Thumb: Indicates which image is currently displayed. This information is also available from the Im text overlay.
- Scroll bar: Blue sections indicate slices you have already viewed.
- Play and pause: Controls the automatic stacking of tomosynthesis images. The the rate at which the images are stacked is specified by Default Stacking Speed in the Tomosynthesis preferences. InteleViewer temporarily pauses stacking to wait for tomosynthesis images to load from the PACS, which might affect the stacking speed. When all images have been loaded, the stacking speed will resume to the default stacking speed.
To view tomosynthesis images:
- Open one or more tomosynthesis studies. See About Opening Studies and Series.
- Select a viewport that contains a tomosynthesis series.

Do one of the following:
Use:
To do this:
Up Arrow
View the previous image in the dataset.
The previous image is determined by the slice positioning preference.
Down Arrow
View the next image in the dataset.
The next image is determined by the slice positioning preference.
Mouse Wheel
Stack through images in the dataset.
Play
button or Ctrl+S.
Stack through each image in the dataset automatically. Stacking alternates between directions.
