Assigned Peer Review Workflow

In an assigned peer review workflow, the Peer Review Assignment Engine (PRAE) automatically assigns a suitable reviewing radiologist for recently dictated reports. The PRAE matches reviewing radiologists to reports based on the following criteria: specialty, quota objective, quota performance, and availability. The reports appear in the assigned reviewing radiologist's Peer Review worklist in InteleViewer. The reviewing radiologist opens the order from the Peer Review worklist and performs the peer review.

In an assigned workflow, a report appears in a reviewing radiologist's Peer Review worklist if it meets all of the following criteria:

  • Automatic assignment to the reviewing radiologist by the PRAE.
  • The report matches the peer review quota rules.
  • The reviewing radiologist has not met his or her peer review performance objective.
  • The report has not been reviewed.

For specialty orders, PRAE assigns reviews to radiologists with matching specialty qualifications. For example, a neuroradiology order is assigned to a neuroradiologist. For non-specialty orders, classified as general radiology orders, all reviewing radiologists have equal preference, with respect to specialty qualification.

Your PACS administrator must create a mapping table that assigns normalized procedure codes to specialties. Normalized procedure codes that cannot be matched to a specialty are assigned to the general radiology specialty. PRAE uses the normalized procedure code-to-specialty mappings in the table to assign an order to a specialty. Orders for patients that are less than 18 years old are automatically assigned to a radiologist with a pediatric specialty. To change the default age, contact the Intelerad Technical SupportCenter.
