Using the Audio Player to Listen to Dictations

Use the audio player to listen to dictations. You can pause the recording, or adjust the playback speed to reduce errors in your transcription.

You can change the playback speed while the audio is playing.

To use the audio player to listen to dictations:

  1. Open the dictation that you require. See Opening Dictations .
  2. Click Play.

    The corresponding audio file plays and the progress bar updates to reflect the length of the recording.

  3. Click the Playback Speed.

    The Playback Speed indicates the selected playback speed. The default playback speed is 1X.

  4. Do one of the following to select the playback speed in the dialog that appears:

    • Scroll your mouse wheel.
    • Press the Up Arrow and Down Arrow keys, the Left Arrow and Right Arrow keys, or the Page Up and Page Down keys on your keyboard.
    • Click on the speed number or speed bar in the dialog.
  5. Press ESC or click anywhere outside the dialog to exit the Playback Speed dialog.
  6. To return to normal speed, click the Playback Speed label and select Normal or 1X.

    When you close a dictation, the playback speed settings return to the default 1X setting.
