Search Filters

You can use the following search filters when performing advanced or basic searches.

Modality FiltersSearch for studies obtained from the selected modality or modalities. If you do not select at least one, studies from all modalities on the IntelePACS will be displayed.

Date FilterSearches for studies that were acquired on the specified date, or during the specified date range. In the Advanced Search window, you can set a customized date range.

Patient IDSearches for the specified Patient ID. Your IntelePACS may use another term, such as M.R.N. or Patient Number. A Patient ID is a institution-wide patient identifier, and can contain any alphanumeric character.

You can enter a partial sequence to search for Patient IDs that begin with that sequence, or leave this field blank to search for all Patient IDs.

You can search for multiple patient IDs by separating them with a “\” character. See your PACS administrator for more information.

Patient NameSearches for the specified patient name. Enter the last name of the patient, or enter the last name followed by the first name and separated by a comma or a “^” symbol.

When you use a comma, the search is treated as a wildcard search with the wildcard implicitly inserted between the last name and the first name as well as the end of the first name of the patient. You do not need to enter the “*” symbol to perform a wildcard search since there is already an implicit wildcard inserted between the last name and the first name as well as the end of the first name of the patient. For example, if you enter Doe,John or Doe, John, your search results will return patients named:

  • Doe, John
  • Doe, Johnson
  • Doe, Thomas John
  • Doestoyevski, John

When you use the “^” symbol, the search is also treated as a wildcard search, but with the wildcard implicitly appended to the end of the first name. You do not need to enter the “*” symbol to perform a wildcard search since there is already an implicit wildcard at the end of the first name. For example, if you enter Doe^John, your search results will return patients named:

  • Doe, John
  • Doe, Johnson

To use this filter, ask your PACS administrator to configure your user account to allow you to view and search for patient names.

Accession NumberSearches for an accession number, a unique study identification number. Depending on your IntelePACS configuration, another term, such as Requisition or Exam Number, can be used instead.

Referring PhysicianSearches for studies requested by a particular physician. Enter the last name of the physician, or enter the last name followed by the first name and separated by a comma or “^” symbol.

You may find the required name more easily by using the Contains filter.

Study DescriptionSearches for text contained in the Study Description field. For example, you could search for the word “chest” or “head” to display only studies related to that anatomy.

Patient Date of Birth Searches for studies belonging to a patient with a specific date of birth.
