Opening DICOM Files from Disk

You can view DICOM files, including those created by a third-party vendor, that are located on local or network disks or removable USB keys. To open the files, the files must use the standard DICOMDIR index file with the corresponding sub-folders for each patient, study, and series. A DICOMDIR is a DICOM standard index file that describes how the associated studies are stored. Individual DICOM (.dcm) files cannot be opened.

Opening DICOM files does not save them to the IntelePACS. They are only opened for viewing.

To open a DICOM file from disk:

  1. Choose File | Open File or press Ctrl+O.

    The Open File dialog appears.

  2. In the Files of Type list, make sure DICOMDIR Files is selected.
  3. Navigate to the location of the DICOMDIR file, select it, and then click Open.

A new Search tool opens and displays the contents of the DICOMDIR. You can open the required DICOM data as you would normally.

The DICOM data is not saved to the IntelePACS, only opened for viewing. If you delete the data from your local or network disk, the data is not retrievable from InteleViewer.
