Understanding Live Mode and Self-Editing Mode
Multi-Method Reporting (MMR) works in two different modes: live mode and self-editing mode. Use live mode to dictate a report or an addendum by using the M*Modal Speech Understanding platform. Use self-editing mode to edit the resulting dictation or construct your own report or addendum. The way in which you can edit depends on the dictation system you use.
MMR with M*Modal is set to live mode by default. When you open a report or create an addendum in MMR with M*Modal, you can dictate immediately. Live mode saves your dictation as a recording.
A draft report or draft addendum is created based on your audio recording and the selected report template when you complete your dictation in live mode. This draft report appears in the Report Editor and then MMR switches to self-editing mode.
In self-editing mode in MMR with M*Modal, you can use voice commands to perform actions such as switching report templates, selecting text, editing text, and inserting quick texts. This is useful when a standard template provides all or most of the information you need for your report or addendum and little or no dictation is required. In self-editing mode in both versions of MMR, you can type text directly into the draft report or draft addendum.
For MMR with M*Modal, you can set the Dictation System preferences to self-editing mode. This will automatically open reports in self-editing mode.
