Resident Over-Reads Workflows
Often in teaching hospital environments, radiologists are responsible to review, provide feedback on, and sign the reports for the residents or fellows that they supervise. To do this, they use a resident/attending workflow or a resident/fellow/attending workflow. The Resident Over-Reads module is used to perform these two workflows. Your IntelePACS may use another term for resident, fellow, and attending. For more information, contact your PACS administrator.
The Resident Over-Reads module is only available for the Multi-Method Reporting (MMR) dictation systems. Also, ask your PACS administrator to configure your user account to access the Resident Over-Reads module.
In the resident/fellow/attending workflow, a preliminary report is signed by the resident first, then the fellow can review, correct, and sign the report. Finally the attending can review, correct, and sign the report. The report becomes final after the attending has signed it.
For the resident/attending workflow, the resident has the option to select only an attending to review, correct, and sign the preliminary report. The report is in preliminary state until the attending radiologist reviews, corrects, and signs it, at which point it becomes final.
Both the fellow and attending radiologists can provide feedback on the report to the radiologists reporting to them.
When a preliminary report requires an immediate review, a fellow can supersede the resident that is assigned to the report and sign the report. Similarly, an attending can supersede both the resident or fellow who are assigned to the report and give the final signature.
In the Signing worklist, the Preliminary Reports table displays who is assigned the report in the Owner column. The table also displays the signature status of the report in the Status column.
In the following example, a resident has approved a report. The report is now ready for the fellow to review.
In the next example, the attending can still sign the report even though it has not been approved by the fellow.
Once the report receives a final signature, it is removed from the attending's Signing worklist.
