Setting Window Level Preferences
Use the window level preferences to set default window levels. Window level settings consist of values for the width and level (contrast and brightness) of an image.
To set window level preferences:
- From the main menu, choose Utilities | User Preferences (Ctrl+U).
- Choose the modality whose preferences you want to set and then click the Window Level tab.

Choose an option from the Default Window Level list. If you have already defined window level presets, they appear in addition to the default settings below.

From DICOM Data
Obtain the window level setting from the DICOM data contained in the image. This option is set by default.
Auto: Low Contrast
Automatically apply a low-contrast window level setting when images are opened.
Auto: Medium Contrast
Automatically apply a medium-contrast window level setting when images are opened.
Auto: High Contrast
Automatically apply a high-contrast window level setting when images are opened.
Full Range
Use the full range of intensity values contained in the image.
The auto window level settings are generated automatically from the DICOM image source and differ from window level presets.

If you selected From DICOM Data in step 3, choose an option from the Fallback Window Level list.
The fallback window level setting is applied if an image does not have DICOM window level data.

Click Apply to save your changes.
The window level setting is applied to all studies from the selected modality when they are opened.
