Recording Dictations in the Multi-Method Reporting Window

You record dictations in the Multi-Method Reporting window when you either start dictating a report or create an addendum.

This topic describes how to use a SpeechMike Pro model. The controls on other digital voice recorder models may differ from those described. Consult the documentation that came with your digital voice recorder.

To use your SpeechMike and audio controls to record a dictation:

  1. Press and hold the Record button on the SpeechMike to dictate. Release the button to pause.

    The audio waveform reflects the length of the recording while the level bar indicates the volume.

    If you enable Allow Click to Record on SpeechMike in the Dictation System preferences, you do not have to hold the Record button to dictate. Click the Record button to dictate. Click the record button again to pause.

  2. To use the Dictation controls to playback and review the audio recording, do the following:

    Click Play.

    Advance or rewind the audio

    Click and drag the scrub bar.

    The scrub bar updates to reflect the current location in the audio recording.

  3. To use the digital voice recorder controls to playback and review the audio recording, do the following:

    Press:

    To:

    Playback or pause playback

    Playback or pause playback of the recording.

    Rewind

    Rewind the recording.

    Rewind

    Fast forward the recording.

  4. To continue a dictation, do one of the following:

    • Press and hold the Record button to dictate.
    • Rewind or fast forward the audio until the scrub bar is at the required location.

    You can continue recording audio at the end of the recording, or from any point in the current recording.

    You cannot insert audio. If you begin recording again from a point in the existing recording, you will record over any existing audio from that point forward.

  5. To remove the audio recording and start over, click Discard.

    Discarding an audio recording cannot be undone. Once an audio recording is discarded, it cannot be restored.
