Understanding the Critical Results Tab
The Critical Results tab displays all orders with completed or pending critical results. The tab displays all completed critical results in the past 30 days. The number in parentheses on the Critical Results tab label is the number of pending critical results.
As you are working, the Critical Results worklist automatically updates during regular intervals to display new critical results and removes those that have been completed. The exact interval of time between automatic updates depends on your workflow configuration. The default is every 60 seconds; however, you can choose to manually update the list to ensure that you are working with the most current critical results.
Each critical result appears on a separate row in the list. By default, the table is sorted by the due-in time in ascending order. Outstanding communication requests appear first, followed by pending requests.
To sort the list, click a column heading. To change the columns
that appear in the list, click the Select Columns icon then
enable or disable the names of the columns to display.
The width and order of the columns in the list roam with the general profile.
Each critical result has a priority level that is displayed in the Level column and is based on the severity of the radiologist’s findings which appear in the Finding column. By default, there are seven level-one findings.
There are four priority levels that are designated by a colored
flag indicator
in the Critical Results section of an order. These priority levels
categorize the urgency and response time of a critical result. By
default, the priority levels are defined as follows:
This flag color: |
Indicates: |
---|---|
Red |
Critical priority level—The critical result must be communicated to the referring physician within 60 minutes. |
Orange |
Urgent priority level—The critical result must be communicated to the referring physician within 6 hours. |
Yellow |
Important priority level—The critical result must be communicated to the referring physician within 3 days. |
Blue |
Less important priority level—The critical result must be communicated to the referring physician within 5 days. |
On some versions of InteleViewer, the Less important priority level has a yellow instead of a blue flag. A Less important critical result still appears with a blue flag in other IntelePACS products.
The Critical Results Due In column displays the time remaining for communicating the critical result to the referring physician. Overdue critical results appear at the top of the table and are indicated by a negative sign and a red or cyan background (depending on the color theme selected in your user preferences). The due-in time is indicated in days, hours, and then minutes. For example, -3 d 4 h 35 min translates as 3 days, 4 hours, and 35 minutes overdue. After a critical result for an order has been communicated, the entry moves to the bottom of the list.
The Crit. Res. Assigned To column displays the name of the assistant who most recently added a follow-up. If a critical result is assigned to an assistant and no follow-up exists for the critical result, the column is blank. If a radiologist self-assigns a critical result, the radiologist's name appears in the Crit. Res. Assigned To field.
The status of each critical result in the list appears in the Status column as follows:
Status |
Description |
---|---|
To be Called |
The radiologist has created a new critical result and assigned it to himself or herself or delegated it to an assistant or clerk. |
Pending |
The radiologist, or an assistant or clerk who has been delegated this task, has attempted but not yet succeeded in confirming this critical result with the referring physician. At least one note or comment has been added to the critical result. |
Viewed |
The referring physician has viewed the critical result in the InteleConnect EV web portal but has not acknowledged it. Also, the radiologist, assistant, or clerk has not yet confirmed the critical result with the referring physician. |
Done |
The radiologist, assistant, or clerk has successfully confirmed the critical result with the referring physician. |
Acknowledged |
The referring physician has independently confirmed the critical result in the InteleConnect EV web portal. |
If your workflow uses grouped procedures, a critical result is associated with the entire order and, therefore, can be viewed from any exam in the order.
If your workflow uses linked orders and you link an order, you will not be able to associate a critical result with all linked orders. You must add an individual critical result for each linked order.
