Opening the Next Order

When you complete a dictation, InteleViewer has features to help you choose and open the next order.

You can quickly see if STAT orders are waiting for dictation without needing to return to the worklist. A red icon appears in the Worklist tab when there is at least one STAT report.

The red icon stays on the Worklist tab until you have dictated the last STAT report on your list. This is especially helpful if you also use the Automatically Open Next Order option.

When enabled, the Automatically Open Next Order option opens the next order for you when you complete a dictation. It chooses the next order based on how you sort the worklist and the position of the current, completed order in the worklist:

  • If the current order was first in the Ready tab of the worklist, then InteleViewer opens the new, first order in the worklist. In other words, if you start with the first order, then InteleViewer always opens the first order.
  • If the current order is not first, then InteleViewer opens the next order. For example, if you sort the worklist by Study Date and you complete the report for the fourth order, then InteleViewer opens the fifth most recent order.

If you have completed dictation for the first order in the worklist, auto-next functionality will open the next order from the worklist for dictation. If you close this order without dictation, then this order will go back to its original position in the worklist, the auto-next function will be stopped, and InteleViewer will display the worklist tab with the current selected order.

Once the auto-next reaches the bottom of the list, it will return to the worklist.

The auto-next feature functions in a different manner based on the selected sorting of the worklist. Below are the different examples explaining how the auto-next function works for different scenarios:

  • Sort the worklist based on the Study Date and earliest time:

    • If you are sorting the worklist based on the Study Date, starting with the earliest time, and dictating a second order for 20 minutes, any subsequent orders added to the worklist will be positioned below the dictation order due to their more recent study time. The auto-next functionality will then select the next order, including the newly added orders.

  • Sort the worklist based on the Study Date and most recent time:

    • If you are sorting the worklist by Study Date, placing the most recent time first, and dictating a second order for 20 minutes, any subsequent orders added to the worklist will be positioned above the dictating order due to their more recent study time. The auto-next functionality will then select the next order, excluding the newly added orders.

  • Sort the worklist based on the Priority:

    • If you are sorting the worklist by priority (high to low) and you are dictating a third order (Order 3, STAT) in the worklist, any STAT order added to the worklist will be positioned above or below the dictation order depending on the study time. The auto-next functionality will then select the next third most recent order.

    • If you are sorting the worklist by priority (high to low) and you are dictating a third order (Order 3, ROUTINE) in the worklist, any STAT order added to the worklist will be positioned above the dictation order. The auto-next functionality will then select the next third order excluding the newly added STAT order.

To always open the order with the highest priority:

  1. In the Ready tab of the worklist, sort orders from highest to lowest priority. See Sorting the Worklist.
  2. Open the first order in the worklist.
  3. In the Patient Record tab, enable Automatically Open Next Order.

When you complete your dictation, InteleViewer opens the new, first order in the worklist. Because you sorted the worklist by priority, this order will have the highest priority.
