Configuring a DICOM Film Printer

You can configure a DICOM film printer in InteleViewer. When setting it up, you must be certain that the settings follow the printer's supported configurations. Otherwise, you may get error messages when printing images to film.

Supported configurations are normally specified in the DICOM conformance document that comes with the printer or that can be downloaded from the manufacturer's website.

Once you have successfully configured settings for a DICOM film printer, you can verify and copy those settings to another workstation.

To configure a DICOM film printer:

  1. Choose Print | Film Printer Settings.

The Film Printer Settings window appears.

  2. If your printer model is listed in the Printer menu, select it and update the basic settings: Printer Name, Color Print, AE Title, Host, and Port.
  3. If your printer model is not listed in the Printer menu, do the following:

    • Update the basic settings (Printer Name, AE Title, Host, and Port) with the printer information.
    • Click each parameter in the Parameters table and obtain the DICOM tag number in the informational section to the right of the table. The Collate and True size parameters are user preferences and are not part of the conformance document. For example, the Border Density parameter has the tag number 2010,100.
    • Use this tag number to search for the parameter's supported configuration in the DICOM conformance document. Occasionally you may only need part of the tag (e.g. 2010) to be able to locate it in the document.
    • Verify that the settings for the parameters are valid in InteleViewer.
  4. Click Save Changes.
  5. Add an image to film and print the film to ensure that you have successfully configured your printer.

To verify DICOM film printer parameters:

  1. In the Film Printer Settings window, verify whether the parameter is not used by consulting the Not used field.

If the parameter is indeed used, the conformance statement should mention it.

  2. If applicable, verify whether the values specified in the Default and Valid Values sections are supported values.
  3. If applicable, verify whether the numbers specified in the Range section are within the range specified in the document.

To copy a DICOM film printer configuration:

  1. On the workstation where you have configured the DICOM film printer, exit InteleViewer.
  2. Go to the InteleViewer's installation folder. For example, go to C:\Program Files\Intelerad Medical Systems\InteleViewer.
  3. Copy the file dicom_print.zip to a network or USB drive.
  4. On the workstation where you want to apply the printer configuration, place the file in the InteleViewer installation folder.
